Uhh… If you add them all together, the total is 100. So, for the first problem you must first know that 10 out of the hundred clips are purple; which is reduced to 1/10. You want to show her odds AGAINST picking a purple, so, she has a 10/1 chance, which is 10:1. It isn’t 1:10 because they are looking for her chances of NOT picking a purple paper clip. Saying it is 1:10, means she has a 10 to 1 chance of picking a purple clip, as it is her odds AGAINST. For the second, there are 25 of 100 clips, which equals to 1/4. This time, you must show her odds in favour, so it will be 1:4.
Hope it helps. !! -x-
