Pottery Objects Attract Attention Of Several Artists

Pottery is formed of clay by hand. It can be further finished with a glazing, and fired to become ceramic. A potter is a person who works in this medium.

Pottery has been enjoyed by millions of people the world over for centuries. Pottery has multiple applications.  Various techniques have developed to work with this versatile, pliable product. Pottery comes in all shapes and sizes. In markets and bazaars around the world, you will find unique, elegant, and utilitarian pieces.

The art of pottery originated in the Far East. Artisans ply their craft today in the same discipline which has been handed down for generations. From father to son, or master to apprentice, the skill is undeniable. Today, some potters still make clay by hand and fire the pottery in hand made kilns.

To shape the clay into a pot or vase, potters utilize a potter’s wheel. This spinning disc enables the potter to mount the clay and shape elegant or utilitarian shapes. Critical to the process of making any pottery is to ensure that the clay has been de-aired. This ensures that there will be no imperfections when the clay is dried or fired.

Once the clay has been fired, it is hard. Different techniques are utilized to produce a finished product. These artistic techniques produce a finished product which is valuable and in many cases handed down from generation to generation.

Burnishing is a technique through which the potter can sharpen the edges of pottery. Through burnishing, the potter can give a personal touch to the pottery.  Some potters like to glaze the objects. Through glazing, potteries look attractive and wonderful. After designing eye-catching potteries in Eastern countries, they are imported to several Western countries where people are ready to pay large sums to purchase these objects.

Some artistic people like to arrange exhibitions for showcasing the exquisite work of potters. They commission potters to design potteries for exhibition, and often sell them for a good price.

Are you an artistic person who enjoys pottery from around the world? Have you ever considered putting together an exhibition?

Without the help of a friend who knows these old world potters, it would be difficult to obtain pottery of any substantial value. You need to find a person from that culture who knows the potters and their work.
