Archaeology: Ceramic & Lithic Artifact Dimensions…?

I am currently in a archaeology class and we have two questions (same idea) that i cannot figure out how to answer:

1) Describe the dimensions of ceramic artifacts that archaeologists study. What does each of these dimensions inform upon? What kinds of inferences can be made?
2) Describe the dimensions of lithic artifacts that archaeologists study. What does each of these dimensions inform upon? What kinds of inferences can be made?

From what i have found i think the dimensions (ceramics) would be the colour, shape, temper, surface, treatment….and then the modes of each of these..(colour: red, brown, black, treatment: paint, imprints)
However, i cannot figure out how to tie in that with the second and third question.

Would anyone be able to better describe what this question is asking/how to answer??

Thank you for any help!!!

For lithic artifacts, the type of material (chert, quartzite, obsidian, etc.) is important — most can be traced to point of geographic origin so that can help reconstruct where the people who left the artifact traveled or the range of their trading area with other population groups. The size and shape of a stone tool would suggest what it was used for, even the degree to which it has been modified: is it a rough-cut “blank” or “core”? has it been reworked after being broken? Occasionally a tool is found in place with the debitage (scraps) that remain from the tool’s manufacture — this helps determine how it was made. Is it a functional tool, or, as is believed with some delicate and oversized Clovis blades that have been found, more of a ritual or status object than a useful tool? The style helps to determine its correlation to other known styles to help with dating and cultural identification. Evidence of wear along the edges can help determine function. With modern laboratory techniques, archaeologists can now detect extremely faint traces of blood and plant matter on some tool surfaces and can determine what types of game and other food materials were processed with them.

So, important features would be:
- geographic source of material
- degree and process of modification
- style and function
- evidence of wear
- surface residue of biological origin

I think whoever wrote the test question might have used a clearer word than “dimensions” . Dimensions suggests spatial measurements only — perhaps “characteristics” would have been more succinct.
